Just found out that ed has passed..i was in santa cruz with my sister in law marilyn ann johnson for herbusiness..when i spoke last to ed is when his old friend from 6th army band,my husband,gary m johnson passed away..i promised ed i would come visit when i could..so surprised when i tried to get intouch..we were friends from when he was in band..he even came over to germany to visit and travel...he stayed with us in frankfort..ed was truly one of a kind..he put garys daughter laura in an...

Zak was my friend. Ornery, cantankerous, irascible & stubborn, but also generous and loyal. He was an extraordinary advertising photographer working in San Francisco at a time when that business was amazing. I worked for Zak on and off as a photo assistant from 1973 through 1978 and it was a real education! I thought I knew about photography until I met Zak! His studio in an old firehouse on Tehama was like an Aladdin's cave of Americana, not to mention the Porsche Speedsters, and to a kid...

Ed could be described as many things: eccentric, schrewd, creative and so much more - but he was a thoughtful and generous man to many who knew him - myself included. The City has lost another of its most interesting characters, and I'll miss him.If you knew Ed, you know there's not another man on the planet like Ed. Additionally, his photography was always fresh and beautiful - he was a master in every sense.
