Edwin L. Folk, loving husband, father, and grandfather of Forks Township, formerly Wind Gap, passed away peacefully surrounded by family Thursday, May 12th, 2022, at his residence. He was the husband of Linda L. (Leipold) Folk. They celebrated their 55th wedding anniversary, January 26th, 2022.


Born in Easton, September 27th, 1942, he was the son of the late Edwin G. and Esther (Roncorini) Folk.


He was class of 1960 at Whitehall High School, receiving his bachelor’s degree from Mount St. Mary’s College “The Mount” in Emmitsburg, MD, in 1965. Later, receiving his Master’s in Education from Temple University in 1972.


Prior to retiring, he was a popular English teacher for 32 years at Pen Argyl High School. While at Pen Argyl, he was the Head Baseball, Basketball, and Golf Coach for 17,6, and 3 years respectively. Also finding time to serve as the Assistant Track Coach.


After retiring from Pen Argyl High School, he was an exceptional Golf Coach at Moravian Academy from 1997-2007. At Moravian, his golf team won 6 Colonial League Championships, 4 Colonial League Tournament Championships, 2 District XI Championships. From this success Ed received the honors of Colonial League Coach of the Year from (2000-2001), (2003-2004), and (2005-2006), and was named Express-Times Coach of the year in 2005 and 2006.


Playing baseball, his success started early pitching a two-hitter in the Babe Ruth State Final. Then being a four-year letter winner at Whitehall High School he pitched a one-hitter to defeat Lehighton in the Lehigh Valley League Championship. In high school and after, he pitched for Sam Balliet at Coplay American Legion, in his junior year of high school for Sam he pitched a three hitter for Coplay to defeat Morrisville in the state final, being named to the All-Pennsylvania Legion Tournament team. In college, he pitched and lettered for 3 years at “The Mount.” While playing against Georgetown he struck out 14 batters in his junior year.


Playing basketball at Whitehall High School he was a 3-year letter winner and earned a full scholarship to play basketball at Mount St. Mary’s. While playing in college “The Mount,” he played in the 1962 Division II NCAA National Championship and won. Scoring career highs in his sophomore and senior years, he scored 26 to defeat Old Dominion and 34 his senior year to defeat Western Maryland. Ed was named to the All-Conference Tournament team as a sophomore. During his senior season he was named to the All-Conference team.


In retirement he was a member of the St. Elizabeth of Hungary Parish, Pen Argyl, and an active member of the Northampton Country Club.


In addition to his loving wife, Linda, Ed is survived by son James “Rick” Folk and his wife Krista of Argyle TX, and daughter Heather Kupres and her husband Dave of Pen Argyl, also five wonderful grandchildren Ryan, Ben and Gillian Folk, and Connor and Emma Kupres.


There will be a visitation, Wednesday, June 1, 2022, beginning at 6 PM until 8 PM at the Ruggiero Funeral Home, LLC, 126 E. Pennsylvania Avenue, Pen Argyl.  All other services are private.

Deepest sympathy to the entire family. Mr. Folk was such a kind man. I enjoyed when I would run into him over the years, he always talked about his children and grandchildren so proudly and lovingly.

To the Folk family. Ed and I played on the 1959 Whitehall basketball team that won the Lehigh Valley League championship. We had lots of good memories together growing up in Fullerton. God bless you and your family. Fred & Martha Rummel
