Not sure what to say?

To the Colonel's Kids,

I was RD at Region four of DCPA (now FEMA)from 1970-78. Your dad was one of the sharpest and most talented and respected emergency managers in the region. I was pleased to know that he ended his career as Deputy Regional Director a well deserved and long overdue promotion.

Mrs. Bishop and I attended many functions with Ed and Joyce, most noteworthy the Dance Club dinners at BC Country Club. They cut quite a swath on the dance floor.

Julie & Aimee:)
Sending my deepest sympathies to you and your extended family.

I enjoyed knowing both your mom and dad
while I lived in Battle Creek.

I know they both were so very fond
of all their children.

I know you will have many fond memories of your dad that will
bring you comfort and joy.

Sincerely,
Nancy Martens Vitale

Rick, Carole, Jule and families,
I want to send my condolences. What I remember most about your Dad is the dignified way he conducted himself and the lead soldiers.
My prayers and thoughts are with you at this time.

I have had the pleasure of getting to know Ed. I enjoyed spending time with him and getting acquainted . He always did something that made me smile. My love and prayers go out to his family.

I enjoyed working and being the boy scouts with him. Jis leadership to the kids. He was all so great friend

We had the great honor of meeting Col. Hakala at Fort Custer for a veterans ceremony. On this day, Nov 10th, the Marines 235th birthday, we know he is celebrating with Chesty, raising a toast with a hearty SEMPER FI. Thank you Col. Hakala for your service and...

Ed was a fine gentleman whom I had the pleasure of working with in the nineteen-seventies. I knew he had served on active duty as a Marine, but had no idea of what he had been through for our country or what he had contributed. My condolences to his family. Semper Fi!

Our thoughts and prayers are with you in your time of grief. May your memories bring you comfort.
