Edwin M. Meares Jr., M.D., 65, a resident since 1991 of Kennebunk, Maine, a U.S. Navy veteran, and chairman of the Urology Department at Tufts/New England Medical Center from 1975 until his retirement in 1996, died at his residence on Sunday, October 22, 2000, following a long illness. Memorial services are scheduled for Saturday, October 28, 2000, 1 p.m., at Christ Church, Dane Street, Kennebunk. Contributions in Dr. Meares’ memory may be made to the Kennebunk Rotary Scholarship Fund, c/o Treasurer, P.O. Box 888, Kennebunk, ME 04043 or Southern Maine Home Health Care, P.O. Box 739, Kennebunk, ME 04043. Arrangements are by Bibber Memorial Chapel, Kennebunk.
Ed and I were married. He was the most dedicated surgeon I have ever known and committed to the best care available to his patients, even if it meant them going elsewhere for care. He loved being a doctor and when retired gave as much to me and his friends, and yes, to his 20-acre property in Maine and religiously mowed all of it once a week.
