Christ the King Altar Boy Picnic 1958
I remember Father Metzger well. He was the assistant pastor at Christ the King when I was an altar boy in the late 50s, early 60s, and he had a calm and easygoing manner. Perhaps it was his youth, looking back at it, but he was never a threatening presence, although he certainly commanded respect. Nevertheless, he was approachable to us boys; again, looking back - he was closer in age to us than our fathers! He clearly enjoyed being a priest, and wrote to me when I graduated high school,...
