Not sure what to say?

"Smokey", was a trademark nickname that went hand-in-hand with his time-honored reputation in the world of Undersea Surveillance - better known to the old timers as just SOSUS. His mentoring of people like George Widenor, Fred Schwanz, and so many others, helped ensure the dedication and professionalism that was so important to our nation's defense. He is missed now and always will be. I pray he is finally in his forever home, still on duty - keeping watch over others. Dee DeMatties

It seems like yesterday that you were coming into the building to do what you did best...help others. You are missed. I can look up at the stars and know that one has your name immortalized always.

Ed was mentored by my father in the field of sosus. He was so wonderful to my family after, dad's passing, in providing us many memories and information from the 60s in Shelburne. Condolences to Smokies family and friends.

Ed & my brother Dennis were friends since Bermuda. He aided me tremendously the last 2 yrs of my brother's life. I will forever be grateful for all his help! Sorry I just found out today of Ed's passing. My sincere condolences to his family. Eileen Conrad

Im very saddened to hear of Ed's passing. We were in the Navy together, later worked together as contractors but most important we were friends. Condolences to the family for their loss.

With "Deepest Sympathy" to the Smock Family. Ed and I worked together at NOPF while I served as OPS and SEA. A tremendous loss to the IUSS community. Those whom he advised, guided and trained will carry on his legacy. Sleep will, My Friend. RIP, Shipmate; we now have the Watch.

Deepest sympathy to the Smock family. Ed was classmate, neighbor and dear friend for many years. I will miss you Sailor.

`Smokey" was a Fantastic neighbor these past 38 years...always ready to lend a hand when needed and then leave you in Peace when you didn´t. I can still recall the squeals of our grandkids playing on the trampoline in Smokey´s backyard. Our deepest condolences to the entire Smock family. THE IUSS community has lost a "National Asset" and the Country will sleep uneasy for awhile. RIP Brother, we have the Watch.
