Not sure what to say?

I was a classmate of Ed's. He was an instant success when he came to Muskegon Schools, with his good looks and warm but shy personality. I and a friend played many a of game of checkers and Yathzee with Ed while we finished high school. I lost contact with Ed through college and Navy service, but heard he lived many years at Brookhaven following his parents passing.

I had two young heros in life; a boyhood friend who lived as a quadruplegic for almost 40 years of his life...

I had a lot of great cousins and Ed was right up there. He was the most special! Ed made me a part of the ground in sand lot football. I believe Ed had a single digit handicap in golf at age 15.

All my best to his family Wally, Bing and Rod and loved ones.

Usually when visiting Muskegon I would stop in to see Ed. He was very happy in his own way! When I thought Ed was slipping at checkers he would make a triple jump and crush me into the ground once again. I...

Sorry to hear about Eddie, I talked with him a few times when visiting my Mother in Brookhaven. She said he was a inspiration to her, when she was feeling sorry for herself. Peace, Judi Balogh Harris

My prayers go out to Eddie's remaining family. I never got to meet him but the memory of the football game that injured him is burned into my memory. I was cheerleading for Grand Haven and was struck with horror when his accident happened. I'm glad he made a difference in many people's lives and enjoyed his life.

May the love of friends and family carry you through your grief.

Sad to hear about Ed. I remember the fund raiser we had at MHS for Ed, HOPE, Help Our Player Ed. He was very well liked and a lot of people will miss him.

To the Wittkopp Family:

I am so saddended to hear of Eddie's passing. I remember visiting him when I was the President of the Student Council of Muskegon Senior High School in our first Eddie Wittkopp Day! What was so remarkable was his outlook on life. We all returned back to MHS with a renewed sense of thankfulness for all that we had experienced to that point in our lives.

I am praying for the remaining members of the family. I was sad to read that Barbara had passed...

It was my privilege to visit Eddie weekly for the past 6 years. He was a delight and a joy to know. The only time I won a game of checkers was when he let me win, just one time. He often asked me questions about Heaven and I know that he looked forward to the day when he could join his parents there. While in ICU, I was able to pray with Eddie and the broadest smiles crossed his face as he experienced the peace of Christ. I praise God that Eddie is now perfectly healed and with his Lord....
