Mrs Eileen Kathryn Asselin

HOUGHTON Eileen Kathryn Asselin, 99, of the Bluffs in Houghton, passed away on Saturday, March 31, 2012 at Portage Health in Hancock. Eileen was born on July 19, 1912 a daughter to the late Thomas & Mary (Dubuque) O'Rourke in Hubbell. She attended the Catholic school in Hubbell and graduated from Lake Linden High School. On February 27, 1935 she was united in marriage to Leonard J. Asselin, in Detroit. They, along with their seven children, lived in Detroit, LaGrange, IL, St. Louis, MO, and South Lyon MI. They retired in 1979 to their roots in Bootjack. They moved to Agate St., Houghton, in 1998 and then to the Bluffs in 2004. Eileen was a member of St. Ignatius Loyola Catholic Church in Houghton. Her husband, Leonard preceded her in death on August 16, 2006. Also preceding her in death were her parents, her brothers, Morton and Gordon O'Rourke, her sisters, Gloria Smith and Marie O'Rourke and her son, Leonard, Jr. Surviving are: four sons, Ron (Elaine) Asselin, Bootjack, and Omaha, NE, Brian Asselin, Seattle WA, Thomas (Peggy) Asselin, Palm Harbor, FL, Jimmy (Susan) Asselin, Malvern, IA, two daughters, Diane Jones (Larry, deceased), Oley, PA; & Susan Leipholtz, Hudson, WI, and daughter-in-law, Gay Asselin of Prairie Village, KS. Also surviving are 24 grandchildren, 43 great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated on Thursday, July 19, 2012 at 11 a.m. from St. Ignatius Loyola Catholic Church, Houghton with Rev. Fr. John Martignon to officiate. The family will receive friends on Thursday, from 10 a.m. until time of services at the church. Interment will be in the Mount Calvary Cemetery in Lake Linden.
