Eileen Murphy Fogarty, 76, died on Friday, November 16, 2012, at Civista Medical Center in La Plata, Maryland, formerly of Palmyra and Charlottesville, Virginia. At her side as the angels came were her loving husband of 50 years, Patrick F. Fogarty, and her only child, Cara Fogarty of La Plata, Maryland.
In addition, she is survived by her two grandchildren, Magen Stempin and Hunter Stempin, and her son-in-law, John Stempin, all of La Plata, Maryland. She is also survived by her two sisters, Mary Carey of Woodside, New York, and Julene Giordano and husband, Michael, of Lincroft, New Jersey; her brother, James Murphy of Middlesex, New Jersey; and cousins, nieces and nephews and their offspring. She was predeceased by her parents, Patrick Murphy and Mary Gibbons Murphy; and her brother, Thomas Murphy. She graduated from St. John's Hospital School of Nursing in Long Island City, New York. She had a 40+ year career as a registered nurse, primarily at Booth Memorial Hospital in Flushing, New York. She was a compassionate, caring, dedicated nurse and enjoyed her life, her work, her family, and her Catholic faith. She was extremely proud of her Irish heritage, and loved its music, song and humor. Her grandchildren were the light of her life.
In 1995, Eileen and Patrick moved to the Charlottesville area where they spent 12 happy years.
Eileen fought a courageous 53 year battle with five cancers and other illnesses, but always helped others first. The world is a better place for her having been here. She will be missed.
"Soldier rest, thy battle over." Visitation will be held from 5 until 8 p.m. Thursday, November 29, 2012, with a Wake Service at 7 p.m. at Raymond Funeral Chapel, 5635 Washington Avenue, La Plata, MD 20646.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10:30 a.m. Friday, November 30, 2012, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in La Plata, MD 20646 with Father Robert Buchmeier officiating. Interment will be private.
Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice House of Charles County, 2505 Davis Road, Waldorf, MD 20603. Arrangements are by Raymond Funeral Service, P.A. of La Plata, Maryland.
