Desi and Fran are great people. Desi sponsored several softball teams over the years in the Oscoda and Tawas area which had several members from Wurtsmith Air Force on his team. He was very proud of his teams and the several championships that these teams won. He was a great manager, friend, mentor, entertainer, and man. I have many fond memories of Desi, but two special ones come back to me at this time. In the mid 70's I was deer hunting in the area and we had a huge snow storm that closed down all the roads. I walked in from the Old Orchard Park area for Thanksgiving dinner at Desi's, in Footsite. I was his only customer for most of the day. We watched the Lion's and ate turkey with all the trimmings. It was a great meal! It was just Desi and myself that afternoon...when I got ready to leave I asked...
