Elaine was born on January 20th, 1933 on a farm near Viborg, SD to A. Catherine (Andersen) and Alvin Madsen. She was baptized and confirmed in her Christian faith at Spring Valley Lutheran Church, rural Viborg, SD. She attended a country school and graduated from Viborg High School in 1950.

On June 18th, 1950, Elaine married Wayne Brodland. Two daughters Jan K. Londo and Joan M. Berg were born to this union.

Elaine enjoyed sewing, cooking and baking, traveling with Wayne, attending her grandchildren’s sporting events, and spending many winters in Mesa, AZ. Grandma was an excellent bread maker, making the best buns and cinnamon rolls.

Later in life, Elaine joined the quilters group at her church. She sewed an excess of 360 quilt tops to be given to those in need. She spent many hours quilting and continued after her move to the Inn on Westport. Her family received many beautiful quilts as gifts.

Not sure what to say?

So sorry for your families loss. Her and my mom were friends for a very long time. After my mom's stroke, Elaine called me regularly to check on how mom was.

Elaine was LaValles cousin. He always said she was so good to keep the cousins close. We enjoyed her so much. Our deepest sympathy on her passing. LaValle and Pat Madsen. Racine Wisconsin

Elaine and my mom, Eleanor (Terrio) Edelman were lifetime friends until Eleanor's death in 2023...Elaine was truly a very special lady to our family. She will be missed.

Elaine was a kind loving soul. One Sunday at St. John, she had her camera with and took picture of my husband and granddaughter. We still have have it on display in our home. Granddaughter was really little then. Our deepest sympathies to all of Elaine’s family.

My brother, Craig, told me Elaine passed away. Profound condolences to you all. Our mom, Karen, passed away October 31. There’s a huge crater in our hearts! Mom had moved up by my husband and I in 2022.

Elaine took care of me when I was around 3/4 yrs. old. I would go down for a nap, and at 4 o’clock would wake up to the cuckoo clock doing its thing, and she would always give me a couple of Oreo cookies and milk. I have a Frosty the Snowman book she gave me for my third birthday...
