Not sure what to say?

Going through old emails, and looking through old photographs,Mrs Houck is fondly remembered. She introduced me to books, I would have never picked up on my own.I'm glad to have had her as a teacher.

I was a student of hers at Dewitt Middle school Classof 1989. Debra (Race-Maiden name) Barron

I wanted to let Elaine's family know that I was inspired and encouraged to become a teacher, thanks to Elaine. She was a wonderful mentor and an even better friend. She trusted her instincts and was completely honest about what teaching was all about. I respected and admired her immensely. Any student who had the honor of being in Elaine's class will remember her forever. She had a rare personality and wit that we all will miss. Best wishes to her family. Melanie Murphy

Mrs. Houck was one of several teachers who really influenced my desire to learn and for whom English was joyful as a class and something I looked forward to. I am deeply saddened by the loss of such a light in the world. Rest in peace.

Mrs. Houck always remembered to send me something on my birthday when I was little. It made me feel very special.

Bob and I had the honor of working with Elaine, first at DeWitt Middle School and later at Ithaca High School. She was dedicated to her students and worked so hard to see that each child worked to their fullest potential. She was a beautiful lady and will be missed.

I was one of her students at Dewitt Middle school in the 80's.

It is with a heavy heart that I send this post. I credit Mrs. Houck's passion for teaching with my respect for the English language and writing. I still have papers that I wrote in her class! I now show them to my own children as I try to instill the need to be great, methodical writers - an invaluable skill in any profession. If this message finds my dear friend Rob Houck please know I am thinking of you from afar and sending much aloha to your family.

Susan and I send our deepest condolences and fond memories of Elaine. She was a very special friend to us when we were in Ithaca and will be missed. Our thoughts are with you and your family at this difficult time.
