Not sure what to say?

Elaine was always ready to help students, I have seen this with my three children and as a BOE member.

I will never forget our dear Elaine Scurtis who welcomed me at age 13-1/2 into our SS Constantine & Helen Church Choir. Just a few days ago I shared a special memory of Elaine with members of my church choir here on LI. May her Memory be Everlasting.

"Good morning boys and girls"...
"Good morning, Miss Scurtis"

Only the best memories of you and you pushing your piano so deliberately, down the halls of E.V. Walton Elementary.

Every student had an instrument to pick from a stuffed cardboard box and we all played along...

Warmest memories,
Rennie Newmark

Miss scurtis was my music teacher at James Caldwell School in the 60's. I remember having music class under the seats in the gym. She was great at playing the piano and I remember all of us singing along! May she Rest In Peace .

I'm so very sorry to read that Elaine died just a few months ago, and deeply regret that I hadn't searched for her earlier. Elaine was more than my music teacher at Walton School in Springfield in the late 1950s, she was a mentor and loving friend. She gave me my first (and only) choir solo in 4th or 5th grade and, when I started off pitch, let me begin again with no fanfare or humiliation. Among ourselves, even into adulthood, we, students, referred to her as "MIss Skirtless" with great...

We were very saddened to hear of Elaine's passing. Since 1968, she was a colleague in the Springfield, NJ school system and over the years became a dear friend to both of us.
We will miss her acerbic wit, her pride in her Greek heritage, her delicious spanakopita, and always her beautiful music.
Sympathy to all who knew and loved her. Rest in Peace, dear "Scurtis".

I am sorry for your loss. Michael Bisk

Miss Scurtis was my music teacher at Walton School 60 years ago. She was very talented and always promoted the talent that I had. She made me the musician that I became as an adult!! May she RIP for all the encouragement that she gave to her students in Springfield. I am a better person for my time with Miss Scurtis!!

Miss Scurtiss was my music teacher and my children, Jodi and Nanci Kloud. Never saw her without a smile on her face. Rest in peace.
