Elan Chaim Halperin 59, of Rockville, Maryland passed away peacefully at his home on July 15, 2015 from glioblastoma. He was born in St. Louis, Missouri and grew up in Washington D.C., where he attended Woodrow Wilson HS and George Washington University. He graduated from the George Washington University School of Medicine in 1981, completed residencies in both Internal Medicine and Radiology, and worked as a radiologist in the DC Metropolitan area for over 20 years. He is survived by his cherished wife of 32 years, Barbara Brynelson, and his three loving children Daniel, Ari, and Talia Halperin who were his greatest source of pride and inspiration. He is also survived by his mother Marlene Halperin, "seester" Deena Barlev (Robert King), and many loving nieces, nephews, in-laws, out-laws, and his chosen family, the Zweigs. He was preceded in death by his father Samuel Halperin. Elan faced his illness with humor and grace. Thanks to the care of Dr. Michael Lim, Dr. Matthias Holdhoff, Sue Zhen, and Liz Carrino-Tamasi he had two and a half years of adventurous travel and memorable moments with his family and friends since his cancer diagnosis. Friends are invited to join the family at the Barlev and King residence on Sunday, July 19, from 1 to 5 PM to share memories: 16114 Llewellyn Manor Way, Silver Spring, MD. Not sure what to say?

As the 6th year approaches, my heart is filled with memories and love. I keep his picture viewable on my dressor and desk.It is from my wedding and he is leaning over to kiss me. When I play my pinball machine I always think of him and view the LED light he installed. When my Granddaughter plays, I always tell her about my wonderful dear friend. Love to the Halperin/Brynelson family!

I am so sorry to hear that Dr. Halperin passed away. I worked for him and his wife briefly in Elizabethtown, North Carolina when they were just getting their start as medical providers. I was recently in Washington for a Healthcare Convention and learned of his death. My condolences to Barbara Brynelson and the children. He will be greatly missed. Donna Kinlaw, MHA, BSN, CPHQ

Dear Elan's family.

I just learned about Elan's passing. Although I knew this was inevitable, it brought tears to my eyes. But the tears were a mixture of sadness and joy. Sadness because he is gone, joy because his memory brings happiness into my life. Every interaction I had with him was filled with kindness and joy. His memory will forever fill my soul with happiness and gratefulness. His presence graced my life. I thank god for that.

A heartfelt prayer and a moment of...

Dear Halperin family,
Unfortunately, I never knew Elan, but I know his daughter Talia and know that she is a kind, generous, thoughtful and very loving daughter, a true testament to him and her family. I felt as though I knew him through the loving stories she shared with me and know what a void this will leave in her life. The only comfort at this time is to know that someday you will all be reunited as a family again in a place void of pain. God bless your family. With love and respect,...

I just learned of Dr. Halperin's passing. I worked with him for many years in the Department of Diagnostic Imaging at St. Agnes Hospital and Seton Imaging. All of us were so very fond of him and my heart is saddened. I wish peace and comfort to his family,
