Not sure what to say?

We remember well his visit with his wife to Miami and our home to make a touching and spiritual presentation to our entire stake. It is still fondly remembered by many. One brother, no longer active, was especially touched by seeing and feeling the relics that were displayed, especially Alvin's box. He had long ago received his patriarchal blessing from Eldred.

I had occasion to call his office in the Church office building on several occasions about questions that I had that related to the items, in his possession, related to Hyrum and Joseph. He was always willing to take the time to talk with me. My everlasting assessment of Brother Eldred G. Smith is that he was approachable and considerate of those asking him for information.

May God bless you and your family in this time of sorrow.

Dear family,
We are sorry about the loss you have. We know you will miss him.
Love,
Kent & Gladys Brown Cousin

My father, Milton R. Hunter, and Eldred G. Smith were close friends and fellow General Authorities. Patriarch Smith spent a lot of time in our home and I learned to love him for his gentleness, goodness, and humor. He and Dad built beautiful sandstone retaining walls, a pathway, and a fireplace at our home. When we talked in his office before he gave me and my sister patriarchal blessings, he knew things about me that he could not have known without the inspiration of the Spirit. I shall miss...

In working with Brother Smith for the last 25 years, I have never met a man with more energy and passion for life. His desire to continue to go to his office at the age of 106 is a marvel to me and a true example what we are capable of. I will always have the fondest memories of our meetings and the times that he and Hortense would come and present their Firesides to our groups. Thanks for the memories...

Elder SMith was kind enough to present a program including the Alvin Smith tool box to our Singles Ward in the Ensign Stake a few years ago. A sister who had impaired sight, was offered by this good man to feel the inside of the box, where the gold plates were carried through the translation process. She wept with gratitude as this occurred, being given by Elder Smith this special opportunity to use her sense of feel rather than sight. What a great man to share this with all, even those...

Dear Gary, Elizabeth and family,

I know you will miss Patriarch Smith, but you have wonderful memories that will sustain and comfort you. Although I only met your father a couple of times, I feel that I know him through your many stories, Gary.

Jack joins me in sending our sympathy and warm wishes to you all.

Elder Smith's influenced many generations as he fulfilled his duty, traveling the world, blessing others and bringing light in a world filled with gloom and trouble. I pray that the family will feel the tender mercies that Elder Smith gave throughout his long and wonderful life
