Eleanor H. Knapp, 89, a life long resident of Pen Argyl, passed away, Wednesday, January 1, 2014, at Slate Belt Nursing and Rehab Center, Washington Township. She was the wife of the late William F. Knapp, who passed away, April 16, 2010. Born: Born in Pen Argyl, January 30, 1924, she was the daughter of the late Antonio and Augusta (Moretti) Braido. Personal: Prior to retiring, Eleanor was employed as a machine operator for various garment mills in the Slate Belt Area. Memberships: She was a member of St. Elizabeth of Hungary Parish, Pen Argyl, and a member of UNITE, formerly the ILGWU. Survivors: Eleanor is survived by her children, Karen Mengel and her husband LeRoy of Dover, DE, Mary Olewine and her husband Robert of Nazareth and William A. Knapp, of Pen Argyl, seven grandchildren, Gretchen Sorce, Courtney Dirks, Dylan and Ian Olewine, Morgan, Mitchell and Miles Knapp, three great grandchildren, Avery, Gavin, and Aidan Sorce, and a brother Aldo Braido of Bethlehem. In addition to her husband William, she was preceded in death by her siblings, Joseph Braido, Margaret Cascario, Velma Pysher, Theresa Pavan, Lena Rice, Ida Braido, Mary Braido, Lillie Piccerillo, and a great grand daughter Isabella Sorce. Services: A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated, Saturday, January 4, 2014, at 1 PM at St. Elizabeth's Catholic Church, 300 W. Babbitt Avenue, Pen Argyl. There will be a viewing beginning at noon until 12:45 PM, Saturday at the church. Interment will be in Fairview Cemetery, Pen Argyl. The Guerro & Ruggiero Funeral Home, www.ruggierofuneralhome.com, Pen Argyl is in charge of arrangements. Memorials: In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be offered in Eleanor's name to the Alzheimer's Association, www.alz.org, P.O. Box 96011, Washington, DC 20090-6011.
