Eleanor A. Prevoski
Worcester - Eleanor Ann (Treinas) Prevoski, 76, passed away peacefully on Thursday, October 2, 2014, at UMass Medical Center in Worcester, following a battle with cancer.
She is survived by her loving husband of fifty-four years, Stephen W. Prevoski; two daughters, Anne Louise Palczynski and her husband John "Jack" Palczynski of Hopkinton, and Cynthia Marie Kerman and her husband Ben Kerman of Tucson, AZ; four grandsons, Jonathan and Timothy Palczynski and Sydney and Kenya Kerman; a sister, Joan C. Treinas of Worcester; cousins, nieces and nephews. Eleanor was born in Worcester, daughter of the late, Thomas and Esther (Chiras) Treinas, and has lived here all her life. She graduated from Commerce High School and the Mass General Hospital School of Nursing in Boston.
Eleanor was a Registered Nurse, who shared her care and compassion with patients through her work with the Visiting Nurses Association of Worcester, now VNA Care Network, for over twenty years, retiring in 2005. She was proud to have been one of the first women from her family to go to college and become a nurse. The VNA was a large part of her life and she found great happiness in helping the patients and their families.
Eleanor was a member of Saint John's Church in Worcester; having previously been a member of the former Saint Margaret Mary Church. She was an extremely spiritual person and was dedicated to the "prayer shawl" group at her church. She was a member of the Massachusetts Nursing Association and the MGH Alumni Association. She was passionate about animals, especially her loving pets. She enjoyed reading, cooking, the sea shore, gardening and trips to visit her family; but nothing brought her greater joy than the love of her children and grandchildren, who fondly knew her as "Nanny".
Calling hours for Eleanor will be held on Friday, October 10, from 4 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. in Mercadante Funeral Home & Chapel, 370 Plantation Street, Worcester. Her Funeral will be held on Saturday, October 11, from the funeral home, with a Mass at 10 a.m. at Saint John's Church, 44 Temple Street, Worcester. Interment will follow in Notre Dame Cemetery, Worcester.
Flowers may be sent or donations in her memory may be made to the VNA Care Network, 120 Thomas Street, Worcester, MA 01608 or University of Massachusetts Medical Center, in care of The Foundation, 333 South Street, Shrewsbury, MA 01545.
The family would like to extend a very special "thank you" to the staff, nurses and physicians at UMass Memorial Medical Center and VNA Care Network, for all the kindness and care provided to her.
