WILSON, Elfriede ELFRIEDE BIRKENBACH WILSON Elfriede Birkenbach Wilson, 67, of Lawrenceville, passed away on January 3, 2014 with her family by her side. Elfriede was born in Nurnberg Germany to Karl and Kathe Birkenbach. In 1969, Elfriede relocated to the United States where she met and married Gordon Daniel Wilson on October 3, 1971. They were happily married for 43 years. She worked at Efka of America for 24 years where she excelled at translation and administrative responsibilities. Elfriede was dedicated to preserving historic German folk songs and dances by performing with the Atlanta Sangerkreis. She loved singing at various festivals, senior centers and schools throughout the years. Elfriede was also a board member of The German Church of Atlanta for many years where she was a vital part of the congregation. Her faith was a very important part of her life. Those who cherish her memory include her husband, Gordon D. Wilson ; her daughters Wilma Jane Nicholas (David) of Denver, CO; Sandra Diana Brown (Donald) of Monroe, GA; nephew Dan Cummings, of Phoenix, AZ; step-son William Wilson (Linda) of Alpharetta, GA; step-daughter Sarah Prejeant (Curry) of Cumming, GA. She was a loving Oma to Erin, Daniel, Katie, Julia, Madison, Savannah, Elizabeth, Olivia, and Gray. Her loved ones in German include her brother Erich Birkenbach (Gertie) and sister-in-law Erika Birkenbach (Arthur) from Nurnberg. The memorial service will be Sunday, January 12, 2014 at 1pm at The Lutheran Church of the Redeemer. 731 Peachtree St. NE Atlanta, GA 30308. In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions in memory of Elfriede Wilson be made to St. Jude's Children's Hospital.
