Very fortunate to have met Eli and the Habib family. God bless us all. Homer

I was so saddened to discover that Eli had passed. I was a neighbor and childhood friend of Sylvia's in the late '60's. Her family was always so good to me - including little 10-year old Eli. He often dropped by our house and could always made me laugh. I stopped by the French Bakery a couple of years ago for some of their famous orange doughnuts and am so glad I got to see him again. Always so welcoming and full of life. Condolences to his wonderful, loving family.

I started going to The Bakery in 1965 when I moved to Norfolk after the Army. Leaving in 1977, but returning to Norfolk every few months, no trip to Norfolk was complete without a visit to the Bakery. Eli would always quiz me about my living in Washington, DC. Upon leaving and arriving home in DC there would always be a call checking to determine if I had traveled safely. Eli called frequently and I recently became concerned when the calls stopped. I new eli ever since i was a young boy allowed to go where i wanted i would go by the bakery and stop in to say hi to eli and we would sit around and talk he would always tell me to quit smoking there bad for you and to stay in school i always thought of eli as a true friend who tried to get me to go on the right path with my life and now he is gone he went to go be with his father and other family memebers my prayers are with the family and eli will be missed very much in my heart
