Elijah Wright, 76, a resident since 1949 of Lorain, Ohio, a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, a welder-burner for U.S. Steel for more than 36 years until his retirement in 1986, passed away at Specialty Hospital of Lorain on the morning of Tuesday, December 12, 2000, following a 5-month illness. Calling hours are scheduled for Thursday, December 14, 2000, 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m., at Midway Baptist Church, 41810 Griswold Road, Elyria, Ohio. Funeral services are scheduled for Friday, December 15, 10 a.m., at the church, officiated by the Rev. Charles A. Keesee, pastor. Burial will be at Ridge Hill Memorial Park. Full military rites will be conferred by Amherst Veterans Military Honor Guard. Memorial donations are appreciated to Midway Baptist Church, 41810 Griswold Road, Elyria, OH 44035 or American Cancer Society, 43099 North Ridge Road, Elyria, OH 44035. Arrangements entrusted to Hempel Funeral Home, Amherst, Ohio.

He was always my Dad's best friend and big brother and I still can remeber how excited Dad would get just looking for him to come home to visit him. He was a very dear person to me, when I was so sick and staying with my sister Carolyn and going to the Cleveland Clinic everyday he would call and talk to me everyday to see what those doctors were doing for me. My father used to say that he had lost my mother, after thinking on this for a time he began to speak of her loss differently. He no longer referred to her as someone lost for he was conviced that he knew exactly where she was, and when you know where something is then it is not lost.
