Sister Elizabeth Ann BRENNAN, CSJP
1934 – 2014
Sister Elizabeth Ann Brennan, CSJP, a Sister of St. Joseph of Peace, died on April 6, 2014 in Seattle, Washington.
Elizabeth Ann was born on November 9, 1934 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, the daughter of John Michael and Cecilia Ann Brennan.
She entered the novitiate of the Sisters of Charity of the Blessed Virgin Mary in Dubuque, Iowa in 1953 and professed perpetual vows in 1961. In 1990, Elizabeth transferred to the Sisters of St. Joseph of Peace in Bellevue, Washington.
Sister Elizabeth Ann received a B.S. in chemistry from Clarke College, an M.A. in Religious Education from the University of Detroit and an M.A. in Christian Spirituality from Creighton University. Her love of learning, spirituality and prayer was reflected in her many ministries. She served as an educator for 27 years and as a parish associate for 10 years in Illinois and in Seattle. She was co-director with Sister Kathleen Pruitt of Wilderness Retreats for 11 years and served the Sisters of St. Joseph of Peace community as novice director and administrator. Her presence and gifts were greatly appreciated by those who benefited from her wisdom in spiritual direction, retreats and theological reflection.
Her family, friends and Sisters will remember Elizabeth Ann as a woman of prayer, hospitality, compassion and peace who has blessed the lives of many.
She will be deeply missed by her brother, John Brennan, sister-in-law, Judy Brennan, six nieces and nephews and 19 grand nieces and grand nephews.
The Vigil Service is Thursday, April 10th, at 7:00 p.m. and the Mass of Christian Burial will be Friday, April 11th, at 11:00 a.m., BOTH at St. Mary-on-the-Lake, 1663 Killarney Way, Bellevue, WA 98004. Burial will be at 2:00 p.m. at Holyrood Catholic Cemetery.
