Elizabeth "Betsy" Keighron Fuqua Charest, 65, of Winchester, Virginia, died Tuesday, April 17, 2007, in Winchester Medical Center.
Mrs. Charest was born May 23, 1941, in Raleigh, North Carolina, the daughter of the late William Ernest and Shirley Wilson Fuqua. She was a Science Teacher at James Wood High School, from 1990 - 2006 when she retired. During the Vietnam Conflict she worked for the Department of Defense as a Science Teacher in Okinawa, Japan, and later in that conflict she joined the National Staff of the American Red Cross in mainland Japan, specializing in Therapeutic Recreation. In 1975 she concluded her service with the Red Cross as Director of Therapeutic Recreation, at Naval Regional
Medical Center in Camp Lejeune, North Carolina. Mrs. Charest was a member
of First Baptist Church and also attended Fellowship Bible Church and Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church. She was a graduate of Meredith College in Raleigh, North Carolina, where she received a Bachelors Degree in Biology.
She also was a graduate of Pepperdine University receiving a Masters Degree in Human Resource Management.
She married James Henri Charest, on January 8, 1977, in Raleigh, North Carolina.
Surviving with her husband, of thirty years, are two sons, Michael L. Charest and Ryan W.W. Charest, both of Winchester, Virginia. Her brother, William E. Fuqua, preceded her in death, in 1982.
A funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 AM on Monday, at First Baptist Church, Winchester, Virginia, with Reverend George Fletcher officiating. Interment will be in Wilson's Mills Cemetery, Wilson's Mills, North Carolina.
The family will receive friends on Sunday evening from 5:00-8:00 PM at Omps Funeral Home, Amherst Chapel, Winchester, Virginia.
