COOK, Elizabeth A. (Betty) - Of Lakeland, Florida, former resident of Flint, age 83, died peacefully at her daughter's residence on Wednesday, June 23, 2004. Funeral service will be held at 11AM Thursday, July 1, 2004 at the Swartz Funeral Home, 1225 West Hill Road, Pastor Doug Klein officiating. Burial in Sunset Hills Cemetery. Visitation 3-8PM Wednesday at the funeral home. Mrs. Cook was born in Detroit, Michigan on November 25, 1920, the daughter of Sarah (White) and Frederick DuRose. She was a stay at home mom for many years, helping to run her husband's business; then went to work for Alden's Catalog in downtown Flint. She later became a housekeeper at St. Joseph Hospital's GI Lab and Newborn Nursery. Mrs. Cook was much appreciated by nurses and other staff of those areas. She was a member of Asbury Methodist Church. Mrs. Cook retired in 1985 and moved to Florida, with her loving partner, Art Kennedy, to be closer to her sister and brother. They enjoyed frequent trips to the beach, theme parks, flea markets and playing Tripoly. She loved taking photos of all their experiences, flowers and collecting teacups. Surviving are son, Gordon L. and wife Sandy Cook of Flint; daughter, Sandy and husband Larry Nelson of Lakeland, Florida; sister, Margaret (Peggy) Bilida of Hillsboro, Oregon; 3 grandsons, Jeffery S. and wife Sue Cook of Comer, Georgia, Gordon Cook of Flint and Allen E. Nelson of Bay City; 2 granddaughters, Laura Beth Cook of Swartz Creek, Melissa and husband Jody Kus of Flint; 3 great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Margaret DuRose of Muskegon; several nieces and nephews. She will be especially missed by her loving and devoted partner, Joseph Arthur (Art) Kennedy. She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Edward and Herbert F. DuRose.
