Elizabeth Clarkson Darling CHARLESTON Elizabeth Clarkson Darling, 94 years old, a resident of Bishop Gadsden in Charleston, passed away March 22, 2018, in Charleston, South Carolina. A graveside service will be held Good Friday March 30, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. at St. John's Episcopal Church, Congaree. A reception will follow at the Parish Hall. Dunbar Funeral Home, Devine Street Chapel, is assisting the family. Lib or Sissy or Sis, as she was variously most often known, was born on April 29, 1923, in Hopkins, South Carolina, and was the daughter of James Adams Clarkson, Jr., and Kate Anderson Clarkson. She attended public schools in Lower Richland County, graduating from Lower Richland High School. Upon completion of Palmer Business School, she worked as a buyer for Davison's Department Store and later as longtime administrative assistant for the executive director of the South Carolina Technical Education System. Lib and her loving and devoted husband of 65 years Norm lived for many years on Whittaker Drive in Columbia. She was the compleat homemaker, host, gardener and, most especially, the quintessential cook of the finest Southern fare. Heaven will be delighted by her delicious cheese biscuits. Lib devoted her time and resources to her immediate family, her husband, her son and daughter-in-law, grandchildren and spouses, and her much loved great grandchildren. She is survived by her son Steve Darling and daughter-in-law Denise Darling of Charleston; her grandchildren Julia Gore (Thomas) of Wilmington, North Carolina, Edward Darling of Charlotte, North Carolina, Beth Barnett (Will) of Raleigh, North Carolina; her great grandchildren Liza Gore and Pickett Gore; and several close nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband Norman R. Darling; her brothers James A. Clarkson, III and Edward McCrady Clarkson; and her sisters Lucy C. Boliver and Katherine C. Sipple. The family wishes to thank the staff of Bishop Gadsden; the nurses, staff and doctors at Roper Hospital; and Roper Hospice for all their excellent and caring treatment and assistance.
