I went to the Journal Inquirer many times. I sold subscriptions at incredible deals & did a little classified paste up (way back when). Did not see her. One day I met her standing in front office. Busy lady barely had time to talk. Life of deadlines & so many fans that grab interest in the JI storys. I was surprised how pretty she is. Praying this whole story isn't true, Mrs Ellis 92 yo? This lady was pure class. Her critical eye made the paper better. It also intimidated some. I was not one those and was comfortable calling her Betty rather than Mrs. E. She was very thoughtful and sent gifts when I got married and had Highland Park deliver a dish whenever I was hosting a mostly work party. Rest in peace Betty. It was an honor to know you.

My wife Myra and I had the good fortune to break bread with Mr and Mrs Ellis on several occasions in Manhattan during My stint as Mayor for Edinburg Texas. We must say that we feel incredibly blessed to have been gifted and graced with that experience. Mrs Ellis was probably one of the most extraordinary personalities we have ever encountered.
