Tweet Furlow passed away quietly on January 28, 2011 at the age of 84. She was born on November 24, 1926 in Washington, D.C.
Early in her life Tweet Furlow developed a passion for politics. She worked tirelessly for the Republican Party wherever she lived. After retiring to Arkansas with her husband and family, she registered to vote and was informed that Miller County had no Republican primary, and essentially, no functioning Republican Party. Determined to rectify the situation she dedicated her time, her talent, her considerable people skills and her indomitable personality to raise funds to organize the party from the grass roots. A good friend stated, "I have never seen a person more dedicated, work harder, nor be more welcoming and accepting of everyone into the party than Tweet."
Tweet Furlow served as Chairman of the Miller County Republican Party from 1984 – 1990 with a seat on the Republican State Committee and also served as District Chairman for the Republican Party.
Tweet was a homemaker, the birthmother of four, raised a niece and nephew and throughout the years took under wing innumerable other children when they need a place to live or to find refuge.
She was an active member of St. James Episcopal Church for many years. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 61 years Thomas William Furlow, Sr.
Mrs. Furlow is survived by her three sons, Dr. Thomas William Furlow, Jr. of Annapolis, Md., Dr. Terrance Gregory Furlow, of Lexington, Ky., Marsden Simmons Furlow, of Annapolis, Md. and daughter Dr. Jeri-lin Furlow, of Texarkana, AR., niece Sally Fentress of Texarkana, AR., and nephew Jay Fentress of Fort Walton Beach, FL., eight grandchildren and one great grandchild.
