Not sure what to say?

Almost 18 years ago, I was Willie and Kate's babysitter in Chapel Hill. I have thought of your family many times since then, and I was so sad to read of Lissa's battle and recent death. I am thinking of all of you.

I knew Lissa and Chip in high school, but hadn't seen them since about 1980. However, I am a cancer survivor and I was moved and inspired by her writings. God Rest Her Soul. My prayers are with Chip and their children.

I met Lissa at a women's retreat in Mexico and followed her blog faithfully. She was, and still is, such a beautiful inspiration.I'm delighted to have known her.

I was blessed to work with and learn from Dr. McKinley when I was an Internal Medicine Resident at Metro from 1997-1999. I only learned of her death today from a residency colleague. She touched many with her wisdom, her grace and her strength. Rachel (Rogers) Swigris

I wanted to be at Lissa's memorial service today, but I know that our class of '78 was well-represented. I can only imagine how crowded it was as Lissa drew in everyone she met..a funny, kind and multi-talented person who has taught me new lessons in what strength really means.

She loved writing and words, but I am having a hard time finding the right ones. My deepest sympathy goes out to her entire family. A lot of people loved Lissa.

I knew Lisa through CWRU Poetry class at the Farm. Her warmth, compassion, courage and amazing poetry will stay with me. May your family find solace in that you knew this amazing woman better than anyone.

I only "know" Lissa through her dear friend Betsy Backes. Watching Betsy's dedication and love for Lissa has been inspirational. Reading about Lissa gives me a hint as to why--such an admirable woman. Her impact is no doubt greater than you know. I am so sorry for your loss.

To Chip, Brent and family, God graced us all with Lissa. Even if it was for a short time, she made every moment count. She taught us cancer can have grace, dignity and humor and that despite the overwhelming heaviness that comes with that diagnosis, cancer does not define you. Lissa holds a special place in many hearts including mine. It was an honor knowing her. God Bless you all and offer you the strength needed in the upcoming days. The Olympics just won't be the same without you...
