Elizabeth Anna Ramirez (Betty), a woman of boundless love, contagious joy, and unwavering faith, passed away peacefully May 30, 2025 in her hometown of San Antonio, Texas. She was 90 years old.
Born April 1, 1935, to Ernest Rudolph Banz and Hermila Casas Banz, Betty carried with her the values of compassion, community, and celebration throughout her life. She was predeceased by her parents, husband Pedro Ramirez Jr., brother Edward Leonard Banz, and two of her beloved children, Pedro Ramirez III and Catherine Vail.
A proud graduate of Ursuline Academy and University of the Incarnate Word, Betty dedicated her life to caring for others as a registered nurse. Her career spanned the full spectrum of life—beginning in labor and delivery and continuing through hospice—offering gentle, steadfast care from first breath to final rest.
Betty was a loyal wife and fiercely loving mother of four children: Elizabeth Anna Nolen (Michael), Catherine Ann Vail, Pedro Ramirez III, and Rebecca Suzanne Anderson (Stephen). Her family was the center of her world, and she cherished each moment spent in their company.
She was a matriarch full of love and pride for her grandchildren: Elizabeth Anna Camilla Nolen, Catherine Ann Gabriella Nolen, Anna Clare Isabella Nolen, Catherine Rebecca Hannah Lee (Alexander), Pedro Ramirez IV, and Nicolas Anderson. Her joy deepened with the arrival of her great-granddaughter, Catherine Daphne Dove Lee, whom she loved dearly.
Rooted deeply in her Catholic faith, Betty lived her values with grace, generosity, and devotion. She never missed Sunday mass, a milestone, or a moment to offer a kind word or prayer.
An ever-vibrant presence, Betty was an active member of the Red Hat Society and Guadalupanos, where her energy, laughter, and radiant spirit were always in abundance. She had a rare gift for making any gathering feel like a celebration—and for making everyone feel welcome at the table.
She also believed deeply in the sacredness of sharing meals. For Betty, food was more than nourishment—it was ritual, joy, and love made tangible. Whether it was a family dinner, a holiday feast, or an impromptu lunch with a friend, she approached each meal as an opportunity to connect, comfort, and celebrate life.
Betty’s life was a beautiful blend of purpose and play—she worked with care, loved with intensity, and danced through life with open arms. Through her passing, we welcome her energy more fully, and in doing so, we take in more deeply from the abundance of her wisdom, warmth, and boundless love.
She will be deeply missed and forever remembered. In lieu of flowers, the family invites you to share a meal with those you love in memory of Betty.
A rosary will be held on Friday, June 6, 2025, at 9:15 AM followed by a 10:00 AM Mass at St. Luke's Catholic Church.
