Elizabeth (Betty) Cecilia Salapski (nee Rearick) age 78, passed away on Thursday, March 21, 2019 at University of Arizona Banner Hospital. Betty was a longtime resident of Northwest Indiana and recently Tucson Arizona. She is survived by her children: Sheryl (Skip) Schafer, Mark (Amy) Salapski, John Salapski; grandchildren: Shannon Pierson (Justin Emanuelson), Meghan (Kevin) Williamson, Sean Schafer (Christine Cilek), Steven (Kelly) Salapski; great-grandchildren: Adam Pierson, Ryan Pierson, Brooklynn Williamson, Abigail Schafer, MacKenzie Emanuelson, Cole Emanuelson; Siblings: Pat Mills, Larry Rearick Jr; Sister-in-law: Joan Richmond. Betty was preceded in death by her parents, Lawrence and Myrtle Rearick; Husband, Edward Salapski; Brother Tom Rearick; daughter-in-law Sharry Salapski.
Betty was a graduate of St. Bridget's School and Hobart High School Class of 1958. She received her Associate Degree of Science in Nursing from Indiana University and her Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing from Purdue University. She began her nursing career at Methodist Hospital in Gary, Indiana and continued most of her career working in the ICU department at St. Anthony Medical Center in Crown Point, Indiana. Later she worked as a Nurse Case Manager at Northwestern Memorial Hospital in Chicago, Illinois and Porter Memorial Hospital in Valparaiso, Indiana. After moving to Tucson Arizona she began teaching Nursing at Pima College.
A lifelong Catholic, Betty most recently was an active member of Corpus Christi Catholic Church, Tucson, Arizona.
Betty enjoyed spending time with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She will be greatly missed and forever known as a loving daughter, sister, aunt, cousin, "Grandma Betty", and mom.
Betty enjoyed an active life going to football games and casinos until her last days.
Funeral Services will be held on April 6, 2019, at 11:30am at Holy Spirit Catholic Church, 7667 E. 109th Ave., Crown Point, Indiana, 46307. Interment to follow at Calvary Cemetery, 2701 Willowdale Rd, Portage, Indiana, 46368.
A Memorial Mass was previously held at Corpus Christi Church in Tucson, Arizona.
