Hopewell Junction - Elizabeth Stein of Hopewell Junction passed away peacefully on March 22, 2016 at Vassar Brothers Medical Center. She was 89. Born on January 24, 1927 in New York City to the late Otto and Agnes Ernst Meininger. Agnes later married Eugene Turschmann. Elizabeth was sent to Germany in 1936 due to a serious illness in the family and was educated in Germany. She was unable to return to the United States due to the start of WWII and in April of 1947 she returned to the United States.
On May 21, 1950 she married Walter F. Stein at St. Joseph's Church in New York City. She worked for 20 years for a wholesale hardware company in lower Manhattan and in New Jersey as a supervisor in the Data Processing Department.
Being summer residents of Hillside Lake since 1957 , her and Walter became permanent residents in 1985.
Elizabeth is survived by her loving Children Walter and his wife Margaret Stein of Queensbury, and Gerard and his wife Donna Stein of Hyde Park. Cherished grandchildren Carolyn and Michelle Stein, Christopher Stein and his wife Amanda, and Lauren Stephenson and her husband Shane. Dear Great Granddaughters Charlotte Stein and Hayden Stephenson. Dear Sisters Linda and her husband Dr. Franco Diaz of Ocala, Florida, Eugenia and her husband Paul Dodge of High Point, NC, and Susan and her husband Gene McIntyre of Ocala Florida. Her Sister in Law Louise Francesco of Rockfall CT. along with numerous nieces and nephews.
Elizabeth was predeceased by her husband Walter F. Stein on December 3, 1999, and her sisters Louise Mergenthal and Doris Freyer Turschmann and her step father Eugene Turschmann
Friends may call on Tuesday March 29, 2016 from 2-4 & 7-9pm at Robert H. Auchmoody Funeral Home, 900 Route 82, Hopewell Junction. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday March 30, 2016 at 10am at St. Columba Church, Hopewell Junction. Interment will be private at Saratoga National Cemetery.
