Elizabeth Taylor Obituary

COLUMBIA - Funeral service for Elizabeth Howle Taylor, 81, will be held 1 p.m. Friday, March 11, 2011, at Incarnation Lutheran Church, with burial in Woodridge Memorial Park in Lexington. Visitation is 4-6 p.m. Thursday at Dunbar Funeral Home, Devine Street Chapel. Pallbearers will be John M. "Jay" Jenny III, W. Renwick "Ren" Bradley, Michael D. Long, J. Matthew Jenny, Leighton T. Jenny, Kenneth A. Curtiss and Raymond T. Long.

Mrs. Taylor died Monday, March 7, 2011. Born in Birdtown, in Darlington County, she was a daughter of the late Albert Joy and Alma Smith Howle. She retired as a contracting officer with the Department of Defense. While employed with the Department of Defense she was appointed as contracting analyst for U.S. Air Force Europe Contracting in Germany where she worked for five years. A former member of St. James Lutheran Church in Sumter, she was a current member of Incarnation Lutheran Church. An avid gardener, she was a Clemson Sponsor Master Gardener, a member of the Sumter Azalea Club and past president of the Sumter Garden Club. She was a charter member of Herb Society of Sumter and served as past president of National Association of Retired Federal Employees.

Surviving are son, Willie Albert "Bert" Taylor of Sumter; daughters, Sylvia Elaine Curtiss of Charleston, Karen Elizabeth Jenny of Columbia, Nancy Aline Bradley of Columbia, Miriam Ellen Long of Richmond, Va.; brother, James Joy Howle of Patrick; sisters, Belva Gravitt of Atlanta and Dorothy Winburn of Cheraw; eight grandchildren, Matthew and Leighton Jenny, Elizabeth and Kenneth Curtiss, Ali Bradley, Holly and Raymond Long. She was predeceased by her husband, Kerney Wilbur Taylor, sisters, Lottie Walker and Miriam Odom, and brothers, Mac and Carl Howle.

The family would like to thank the staff of, and her friends at, Forest Pines Retirement Community, and Caring For You for their compassionate care and friendship.
