Elizabeth Herrin Winters
June 11, 1929 - October 30, 2023
Charlotte, North Carolina - Elizabeth Herrin Winters (nee Morgan), 94, of Charlotte, passed away peacefully on Monday, October 30, 2023.
Born, June 11, 1929, in Paterson, New Jersey, she was the daughter of the late Arthur Morgan and the late Muriel Annie Husbands. After graduating from Ramsey High School in 1947 she moved to Charlotte, a lone teenager, to attend nursing school. It was in Charlotte that she met the love of her life, John Herrin, who she married and with whom she raised five children. While working and raising her family, Elizabeth returned to school, graduating UNCC along with her sister, Jean, in 1986 with a nursing degree. She later retired from Presbyterian Hospital after enjoying her nursing career where, as a nurse in the adolescent psych unit, she proudly provided hope and care for teens in their darkest moments. After retiring, Elizabeth returned to school to continue exercising her mind and to satisfy her love for literature, languages, and learning. She was a member of Temple Beth El in Charlotte, the Order of the Eastern Star, and the Red Hat Society.
Elizabeth is survived by her sister Jean Viviano; her brother Rod Morgan; four children Tony Herrin (Kathy), Susan Davidson (Ken), Ann Honeycutt (Richard), and George Herrin; four stepchildren, Robert M. Winters, Jr. (Donna), Rebecca Sousa (Daniel), Melanie Davis (Randy), and Ellen Louise Winters (Francois Phan); grandchildren Keith Herrin (Bonnie), Mimi Tucker (Gerald), John Herrin (Renee), Tammy Wilson, Rachel Davidson, Erica Shepelwich (Danny), Laura Honeycutt, Austin Davidson (Lee), Richard Honeycutt, Jr. (April), Max Herrin, Kristin Kushmider, Amanda Cooper (Tim), and Michael Kushmider (Jelena); 18 great-grandchildren, 7 great-great-grandchildren, and many cousins, nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her first husband John Fielding Herrin, Sr., her second husband Robert Marshall Winters, Sr., her daughter Constance Marie Herrin, and her son, John Fielding Herrin, Jr.
"Dessert First!" was her mantra. She had a zest and zeal for life, loved to travel with her sister, read, bake, and crochet. Most of all, however, Elizabeth lived to help others and spend time with her family. She thoroughly enjoyed baking and cooking with her daughters, playing the piano for her grandchildren, and exploring opportunities to be of service to others.
The family would like to thank the dedicated nurses and patient care professionals of Huntersville Health & Rehabilitation Center who provided much needed love and comfort.
Funeral services are private. Please omit flowers.
