Elke Sabine Schindler Hall, 77, Houston, Texas, Saturday, January 4, 2020 Passed away peacefully at home, after a long fight with cancer, surrounded by her loving family. Elke leaves behind her loving husband and best friend Robert "Bob" Hall, Her daughter Sabine Shirley, sons Charlie Hall (Heather) and Rob Hall, Grandson Zach Ortiz, granddaughter Aliah Hall, Great granddaughter Autumn Ortiz. Elke was born in Hirschberg/Silesia in the Giant Mountains and grew up in a large family of relatives in Wroclaw. In 1945, the family fled to Geislingen an der Steige in Württemberg where shelter was possible. In 1948, Elke started school in Geislingen and graduated in 1956. She completed a three-year apprenticeship as a hairdresser. Upon completion she worked in a salon in Bad Ditzenbach. Elke did a lot of athletics and was an art swimmer. She met Bobby "Bob" Shirley in Geislingen. He was a US soldier and returned to Shreveport, Louisiana upon completion of his military service. At the end of October 1959 Elke followed Bob to Shreveport, Louisiana where they wed. Together they adopted Sabine in 1968. Elke raised and groomed poodles. Elke always had great contact with her family in Germany and her mother visited her annually from 1971. Early 1975 the Shirley marriage dissolved. Later in 1975 Elke met her best friend, Robert "Bob" Hall. They married in early August 1975. Most of their friends said it would not last after such a short courtship. Their marriage lasted over 44 wonderful years. During this time Elke worked as an executive secretary to the constable of Harris County precinct 5 (1976-1984) after this time she did some other secretarial positions. Elke loved her pets, dogs especially. She enjoyed reading, cooking, ceramic making and gardening. A celebration of Elke's life will be held on Saturday, January 11, 2020 from 1 to 5 PM at Bob and Elke's home in Houston, Texas. The family can be contacted at [email protected]. Not sure what to say?

Bob & Family - I'm so sorry to hear of Elke's passing. I just found this today and it breaks my heart. She was an incredible person and I'm glad that I got to know her for the short time we were in touch. She was so excited to learn how to make Maryland Crab Cakes and when I visited, we spent hours going to yard sales and flea markets looking for odd McD's toys. I've thought of her often over the years and she'll always be special to us.

It was an honor to have met Elke. A very special lady with a kind heart and beautiful smile. She touched the hearts of everyone and will be deeply missed.

Even though we never got to meet, I certainly realized, through Bob, what a wonderful person you were. Even in the background of our phone conversations you would add in sweet comments that made me smile. It's such a loss that we didn't get the opportunity to know each other, but I am grateful that you and Bob had each other all those years and that you made such an impact in peoples lives. That's such a legacy! Rest In Peace now Elke and maybe we will meet one day. ❤

I did not know you, but a daughter is the reflection of her mother, Sabine is a beautiful loving person, with a heart of gold, and I have no doubt that it was YOU that polished that heart, and through her I know that you are a beautiful person as well, the angels will rejoice as you walk through that gate, those you have left behind will weep, you have gone home, and the memories you left will be the reminders that HOME is where they will be with you again one day, I rejoice with the angels...

Mama your pain and suffering is over but we will miss you. May you be with our other family members laughing and having a great time.

I did not know this beautiful lady but I know her wonderful daughter Sabina. What a fight she put up. Prayers for family and friends for comfort and peace.

Elke will not be forgotten. Forever in my heart.
