Ella Rebecca Cole Newton

Mrs. Ella Rebecca "Nancy" Cole Newton, 90, widow of Oliver Wilson Newton, passed away at home on Monday, October 14, 2013. Mrs. Newton was born December 9, 1922 to the late William Morgan and Mary Emma Whitt Cole in Halifax County. A homemaker, Mrs. Newton's passion was cooking for her family, whom she loved dearly, and her friends. She was a "helper" and was always there for her family, friends, and neighbors. A member of Nelson Baptist Church, funeral services will be held there at 3pm on Wednesday, with the Reverend Billy Coghill officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. Mrs. Newton is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Ida and Harvey Driggs of Skipwith and son and daughter-in-law, Danny and Susan Wooding Newton of Halifax. She was blessed with 6 grandchildren, Arlene, Darlene, Lewis, Glen, David and Madonna; 11 great grandchildren and 15 great great grandchildren. Her sister, Lois C. Thrower also survives. She was preceded in death by her son, Wade Newton. The family will receive friends just prior to the service at the church starting at 2pm.
