Ella Palmatier Tompkins

SAUGERTIES-Ella M. Palmatier Tompkins, 68, a resident of Saugerties since 1992, formerly of Pleasant Valley, died Wednesday, June 1, 2005, at her daughter's home in Highland. Mrs. Tompkins was a waitress at the former Brighton Diner in Poughkeepsie, retiring in 1979. She enjoyed her grandchildren. Born Feb. 14, 1937 in Highland, she was the daughter of the late Ralph and Irene Speedling Palmatier. On Aug. 4, 1980 in Connecticut, she married Fred Tompkins. Mr. Tompkins died Oct. 21, 2001. Survivors include her five children, Ralph Way of Salt Point; Ella Sindone of Highland; Debbie Valle of Saugerties; Raymond Way of Hyde Park; Linda Way of Highland; 13 grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren; her stepson, Andy Miller of North Carolina; her companion in life, Donald Williams of Saugerties; three brothers, Robert Palmatier of Poughkeepsie; David Palmatier of Highland; Elmer Palmatier of Esopus; her close friend, Darlene Bauer of Hyde Park, who was like her daughter; and several nieces and nephews. Calling hours will be 4-7 p.m., Friday, June 3, at Sweet's Funeral Home Inc., Rt. 9, Hyde Park. Funeral services will be 10 a.m., Saturday, June 4, at the funeral home.
