I remember Ellen vividly from our very first year at BRANDEIS in 1962. She was Ellen Kuhn: lovely, lively, much admired, much sought after. When Rick married her we thought: what a lucky guy. And so he was -- through Fabrications, the furniture business and life. It's so nice to see her picture pop up in my email.

Dear Rick, Erica, and Alexa,

We are so very saddened to hear of Ellen's passing. She had such vitality, passion, and love of life. Her spark and presence was palpable in everything she touched. She was more than a supporter of the arts, she had an artist's sensibility and soul. We will miss her.

We are thinking of you at this time of great loss and sending you our love.

Dear Richard,
Our heart goes out to you. Ellen seemed so vibrant, engaging, and energetic. We felt uplifted and full of zest after seeing her. She was positive. She was direct, in the warmest way. We miss her.

Graciousness. From her first days at Brandeis in the early '60s, she was the sole of graciousness. Sharp-witted: to be sure. Enthusiastic: always -- about something. Brave. But her most special gift may have been her ability to make
YOU feel the occasion for her enthusiasm.

I hadn't seen her in quite awhile. But I will never forget her. I'm so sorry, Rick.

To Rick, Erica and Alexa;
For those who had the chance to know Ellen, I guess there is not much to add to the wonderful messages sent by friends from all over. But for those who didn´t get this privilege, I would highly recommend them to listen a great piano score titled “the closest thing to crazy” played by Michel Simone. If we read the word “crazy” as being the sum of sweet, intelligent and beauty just like the word “bouquet” refers to the explosion of subtle flavors, sometimes intense, sometimes discreet, always nobles but sometimes crazy to describe those great wines, result of the dedication, passion and love that earn over time, then and only then, they would have discovered that Ellen was the nearest person to crazy.
Let her memory sound as sweet as this beautiful melody forever.

There are few people who have the passion and the zeal for life, art, family that Ellen always exhibited. She was a true supporter of the arts. It was a pleasure to work with her at The Society of Arts and Crafts, Boston, MA. My heart goes out to her family, who adored her everything.

Ellen lit up any room! Her beauty wasn't only internal but external. She turned rainy days into sunny ones! Heaven is rockin' now! God's a lucky man! You'll always be in my memory. Love, Sarah Patt

Ellen always made our visits to WOW a delightful experience. Upon entering the store,she was ready to help make the customers welcome and to find them just the right thing by giving her total attention to their needs. In addition to being so helpful and having such great taste,she was generous in supporting the arts in much needed areas such as modern dance. Ellen will be greatly missed. I am deeply saddened by her absence.
