Good bye Ellen

I first knew Ellen as my band mate Jim's younger sister, but subsequently we developed feelings for each other. I last saw her when she was in high school but I will never forget how brightly she shined.

Ellen was a radiant light in my high school days, and I grieve her passing. My highest regards to the Brody and Hughes families, and may they continue to carry her light and greatheartedness into the future!

I knew of Ellen through Lisa Bielawa and their affiliation with the MATA Festival, and played recently a work of Ms. Bielawa's which performance was dedicated by the composer to her memory. I remember being greatly moved by the urgency of her dedication, and it was one of the most expressively immediate concerts on which I can recall performing in some years. We are indebted to her through her tireless support of the arts. Condolences to the family and friends.

I first met Ellen when I arrived in Harrisburg to work as Operations Manager of WMSP in 1984. She was already a bright light in the community of volunteers there, a mover and shaker among an illustrious group of dedicated leaders that included Lucy Miller, Paul Stauning, Joe Lowengard and so many others. As Chair of the Program Committee, Ellen became one of my strongest supporters - always encouraging and quick to recognize the unique talents in everyone. Her warmth and generosity of spirit...

I knew Ellen as a board member, a radio host, and a friend. She was incomparable in all those roles. My deepest condolences on your loss.

Ellen: Thank you for being my friend. Your classmate! Owen

All of us who knew Ellen at New York's premiere organization for new music, MATA, are deeply saddened at the sudden news of her death. She not only chaired the MATA Board, promoted and supported its festivals of new music and the artists who were presented, but she also was generous, warm and kind to all. She will be very much missed.
