Not sure what to say?

I just saw this obituary today. Ellen was my supervising teacher when I student taught 5th grade at Murray School just outside of Charlottesville. I will forever be grateful for her warm guidance. A highlight was directing a musical production of Tom Sawyer.

I will always treasure the memories of our times together & an enduring friendship.

Dr. Kelso and family, My thoughts and prayers to you and your family for the loss of Ellen, the love of your life. Mrs. Kelso never met a stranger as she welcomed all into the Kelso world with her infectious smile and grace. Your memories of the love you shared will continue to be a blessing to you. Rest in Peace in the arms of our God.

Dear Bill and family, I am very sorry to read today of Ellen's passing. Immediately upon reading her name I had a vivid image of three smiling couples posed at the North Garden Crossroads --- the album cover from decades ago. After the string band era ended, I enjoyed seeing Ellen at running events. She really packed a lot of living into her years. Wishing your family the solace of rich memories and your shared life so well-lived. God's grace and peace be with you all. Love, Barb...

"It takes a long time to grow an old friend!" And how lucky am I to have treasured Ellen´s friendship for over 60 years. We were college roommates for three years - imagine how much I loved that precious smile and laughter. Ellen and Bill introduced me to my husband Dave and our weddings took place the summer of `62. We traveled several times between our Georgia and their Virginia. We maintained precious friendships thru these years, always with admiration to hear about Bill´s vision and...

Several generations of archeology field school students will remember Ellen playing the stand-up bass on the porch of the Kelso homes in North Garden and Jamestown. She played with enthusiasm and had a huge smile. The field school parties were a treat, and Ellen was a fabulous hostess. Those archeologists have spread out across the country taking that image with them. We have probably forgotten some of the book learning, some of the techniques, or have to look up how to do seriation, but we...

Mrs. Kelso was truly an inspiration to many on Jamestown Island. Dr. Kelso´s determination to prove James Fort wasn´t under water and all of the archeological finds over the last 30 years at Historic Jamestown had the full support of Mrs. Kelso. Mrs. Kelso, rest in the presence of your Lord and thank you for a job well done on earth.

Whenever my husband and I were in Williamsburg we would take a Behind the Scenes Tour at Jamestown with Dr. Kelso. What wonderful times we had with Dr. Kelso on those tours. Then we had the great fortune to meet Mrs. Kelso on the Garden Club House Tours where Mrs. Kelso was a guide. What great fun we had talking to her on those house tours. Both Dr. and Mrs. Kelso always made us feel welcome on their tours. God bless you Dr. Kelso and your family during this time! Know that many people are...

Mrs. Kelso was among my very favorite teachers of all time. She was warm and nurturing in the classroom. She made me feel confident and successful, I looked up to her. I deeply appreciate the gift of being her student. Sending my sincere sympathies to her all of her family. She was a very special person, beautiful inside and out. I will never forget her smile.
