Ellen was a gifted singer and guitar player. I loved her Steve Winwood cover of "Can't Find My Way Home". I think she was a once in a century artist.

She was an incredible slide guitarist,up there with Bonnie Raitt. And great vocals. I was privileged to sit in a recording studio with her many years ago. May she rest in piece

I just heard the sad news today, on a radio show of a tribute to her music. I was a huge fan back in the 70s, and have fond memories of seeing her play in a small club in Ann Arbor, Michigan. The music lives on in my heart. Bless her for the gifts she has given us.

Ellen McIlwaine - I first heard her in the early '70s: a gifted singer, musician, and lyricist; strong Celtic looks & talent. She & (Scotsman) Jack Bruce were an excellent pairing. A determined stylist, her recording of "Underground River" (her composition, entirely), from her "We The People" album, is still a thrill, a remarkable & mystical song -- sung & written from the very core. A favorite of mine, always. I am sorry she is gone. I shall remember her with affection & respect. Rest In...
