Ellen Pryce Obituary

Pryce Ellen Jane (Griffith) Pryce, born in Warren, Ohio, April 18, 1927, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on September 14, 2015 at age 88 at First Community Village in Columbus, Ohio. She was a wonderful woman who helped her mother raise three younger siblings during the Great Depression while working her way through high school and pharmacy college at a time very few women pursued higher education. She is predeceased by her loving husband of 60 years, Richard Vaughn Pryce Jr. with whom she worked to build a family business which thrived for decades. Together they worked full time and raised five very fortunate and grateful children. She was her husband's faithful caregiver for many years as he struggled with the challenges of Alzheimer's disease. Ellen graduated from Harding High School in Warren Ohio and attended Ohio Northern School of Pharmacy. She was an active member of Champion Presbyterian Church in Warren, a life-long advocate of women's health issues, an avid reader and a world traveler. She taught her children the value of a good book and how to love their own children equally and unconditionally. When, in retirement they relocated to join their five children in Columbus, they became members of Riverside United Methodist Church. Ellen and Dick enjoyed RV travel with friends and, as always, quality family time. Surviving family include her brother, Samuel Griffith; her children, Deborah Pryce, Toni Sampson (Tom), Diane Fields (John), Madeline Parks (Dan) and Richard Pryce III (Angel); grandchildren, Mia Pryce, Nathan Sampson (Charmaine), Leah Simoes (Joao), Michael Sampson (Mary), Alex Fields, David Fields, Brenna Kautz (Mitchell) Clara Miles (Anthony), Meredith Pryce, Griffith Pryce and Kelly Walker; and great grandchildren, Ivy and Lily Simoes, Lyla Kautz, Henry and Oscar Sampson. Ellen is preceded in death by her loving mother Clara Griffith, her loving granddaughter Caroline Pryce Walker and her sisters Clara Webb and Audrey Stefanowitz. She was greatly loved and will be sadly missed by her family. A memorial service will be held at 4 p.m. Thursday, September 17 at Riverside Methodist Church for close friends and family. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Ellen's memory to Riverside Methodist Church at 2701 Zollinger Rd., Columbus, Ohio 43221. Arrangements by Schoedinger Northwest Chapel. We have such fond memories of Aunt Ellen. Always loved the family gatherings and spending time in Ellen's "glow". She had such a joy of life and shared that with us. It is a comfort to know that she is now reunited with Uncle Dick and Audrey and in a better place. Please know that we are thinking of you all with love in our hearts.

Dear family; Jennifer and I were truly saddened to hear of your Mothers passing. She is in a better place. I look back many years on when your Dad and she were dating and I was in Warren we would go out dancing. Can't remember who I was dating, maybe the girl next door but we sure had a good time.

Sorry we can't be there but commitments preclude.

Deb, Toni, Diane, Madeline, and Rick,

I was sad to hear of Ellen's passing. Having grown up in Champion and spending much time with your family, I have never forgotten that she was like a second mom to me for many of those early years.

Best wishes,
