So sad to hear. Loved that dry humor and intelligence and admired her strength throughout the years of her battle. Knew her from both TreePeople and CCS. Can picture Hugo and her on our trails at the park. Best thoughts to all her family.

I am so very sad to learn of Ellen's passing, and will remember her energy, wit, compassion and creativity. It was a joy and an inspiration working with her at TreePeople; her contributions to the beautiful and award-winning Center for Community Forestry should certainly be part of her legacy.

Ellen Wirth was a woman of great intelligence, warmth and humor. The grace with which she walked through her illness was inspiring. I will miss talking to her in the library and kitchen of CCS, and my daughter will miss her comforting presence at school. I am so grateful to have known her and all of us extend our sympathy to Hugo, Suzanne, Kevin and all of Ellen's family. Jane, Ivar and Isabelle Brogger

I didn't know Ellen well, but I always found her to be a charismatic, intelligent good person. And I could tell that her friends loved/love her passionately. What happened to her makes me both really angry and sad. I admired her strength in the face of such circumstances. I wish the best for Hugo and Harold and her family and friends.

I worked with Ellen at the CCS library and found her to be a powerful, smart, engaged presence. She was someone I immediately wanted to know. She was collaborative and so wonderful with the students. I am glad I got to spend time with her there and get to know her a little. My thoughts go out to all her family and friends.

Deeply sad to hear of Ellen's passing. She was my cherished friend on 5th Street. As a child, Ellen was tough, loyal, creative and fun. I wanted to be like her...confident, cool, intelligent. We shared Brownie and Girl Scout Troop 2379, summers at the beach or throwing water balloons on La Jolla, walking to The Frigate record store and listening to the Beatles, and many cherished moments of our childhood. My love to Rosamund and the family.
