Elliot Simon
March 24, 1941 - July 22, 2023
Elliot Mark Simon passed away peacefully at home in San Francisco surrounded by loving family on July 22, 2023.
With a passion for the Arts and a resonant laugh, Elliot's warmth and deep love of all things weird and wonderful, especially people, could be felt by everyone who knew him.
He was born on Staten Island, NY to the late Charles Simon and Ruth (Berg) Simon and was predeceased by his brother Michael Simon.
Prior to moving back to San Francisco in 2017, Elliot was a long-time resident of Guerneville and Santa Rosa, CA. He is survived by many adoring relatives including: niece Robin Simon of Chicago, nephew Andrew Simon, his wife Patti Jagger and their son Noah of Oak Park, CA; cousins Brian and Gregory Jacknow of Dunn Loring, VA (the sons of the late Marion Jacknow), Catharina Japikse Jacknow, Jared and Ian Jacknow, cousin Joyce Gerbman and her husband Joel of Monroe Township, NJ and their sons Scott (wife Debbie and their sons Ryan and Jacob) and Adam (wife Surreina).
Always a lifelong learner, Elliot was a graduate of Curtis High School (Staten Island, NY) and held a BS in Psychology from the College of the City of NY and an MS in Human Development from the University of Chicago. After his dance with academia, Elliot had a 40-year career as a successful book editor/owner of Simon & Associates.
Elliot will be remembered as a consummate performer, whether on stage in choirs or theater productions or entertaining friends with clever conversation. He had an unquenchably curious mind that was fed by travelling the globe as a proud member of community choirs, including the San Francisco Gay Men's Chorus, California Redwood Chorale, Occidental Community Choir, and Northern California Chamber Chorale.
He was active in Community Theater throughout the North Bay area with the Spreckels Theater Co., Sixth Street Playhouse, Novato Theater Co., and Pegasus Theater Co. He was recognized with a Rosie Award by the Sixth Street Playhouse for his performance in "Over the River and Through the Woods" for the funniest scene of their 2006-7 season.
Elliot's many friends and colleagues are invited to attend a celebration of life on Saturday, September 2, at 12:00pm at St. Mark's Square (1111 O'Farrell St.) in San Francisco. Donations can be made in his name to the San Francisco Gay Men's Chorus.

Elliot was a beloved part of the Sonoma County folk dance community. Some of my favorite memories of Elliot are from Razzmatazz Camp: we sang show tunes the entire 2.5 hour drive to camp (along with Mark Harrington), then relaxed in a cabin while Mark played bossa nova music on his guitar. Elliot was blissfully happy. I think of him every time we dance Karamfil. He would always sing along to the music, and heaven help you if you were talking next to him! What a wonderful, funny, deeply...

Those of us in the Curtis High School Class of 1957 who are still around and connected through email were all very saddened to learn of Elliot's passing. He was a much loved member of the class. He was the kind of person who always remembered your birthday and would send greetings. If you knew Elliot, you were blessed. Rest in peace, dear friend. Bob Everson '57 Lafayette,IN
