Not sure what to say?

Thank you, Miss Roane, for all that you taught us! Your stories were the greatest, especially the one about when the War started and all of the football coaches went to war. You and some of the other ladies coached the football team that year. You demanded the best and expected the most, which made us the best and the toughest we could be.

We were so sorry to hear of your loss. The thoughts of many are with you at this time of sorrow.

I am one of the charter members of the Tennessee Golden Girls Golf Group, which Elma and Mary Gunn founded 21 years ago. She will be sorely missed.

To the Family,
I didn't know Ms Roane, but we should all be so fortunate to know someone like her, and have such beautiful words written about us. Please find comfort in reading Exodus 34:6.

The Tennessee Golden Girls have lost their founder, leader, heart and soul. I have lost a great friend. May you enjoy all the benefits that heaven has in store for you. God Bless you, Elma.

Ms Roane and family:

I just had to comment on how much I admired "Coach Roane" when I was a Jr High student at Treadwell in the mid 40's. Well remembered was her ability to sink a basketball at the jump ball mid point which few people could do. We were priviliged to have her as teacher/ leader/coach. Not sure if she assisted Coach Hank Farino or if he came later. That was quite a few years back to remember precisely. God bless her and her family.

You will be greatly missed. You were a pioneer for women athletes. You were a mentor and role model for all physical education teachers. I hope that I can live my life to the fullest as you did. May god bless and keep your family until you meet again.

Elma ,was a wonderful coach and friend .She always took a personal interest in her students and had a gift of motivation . Elma could correct her students and never put them down . I have many wonderful memories of her.A true Christian lady .There will never be another Elma Roane!

Elma Roane taught me many things. She taught me how to hit and throw a baseball, catch and kick a football, shoot a basketball, and, to a small degree, how to play badminton, though not at the world-class level that she played. But she also taught me something bigger…something more important. “Elmo” as I called her growing up taught me gender equality. And she taught it to me without ever mentioning the words. She taught it to me through actions rather than words.
Elma was my...
