How often does one have the opportunity to learn from a person of Coach Engels caliber. I was fortunate enough to have played baseball and been taught biology by Mr. Engel, class of "56".

Elmer Engel inspired us to achieve more than we ever though we were capable of attaining.The values of dedication to our goals, responsibility for our actions,on and off the playing field, and the ability to pick yourself up and continue the fight would last a life time. MY HEART DROPPED WHEN I READ THE ONLINE BAY CITY TIMES ABOUT COACH ENGEL. HE TRULY WAS A ONE OF A KIND! HE ALWAYS HAD A SMILE FOR YOU, & AS A COACH THERE WAS & NEVER WILL BE ANYONE WHO CAN TOP HIM! I'M PROUD TO BE A FORMER CENTRALITE (CLASS OF 1971), & PROUD TO HAVE BEEN A PART OF THE ELMER ENGEL YEARS! NOTHING CAN BEAT THOSE WINNING FOOTBALL YEARS THAT COACH ENGEL TOOK US THROUGH!

I was fortunate enough to have Elmer Engel as my Biology Teacher. He always added his life experiences into class and brought it into perspective. Coach Engel and his team of assistant coaches certainly put Bay City Central in the spotlight for many years. Thank you for entertaining us. You will be remembered always. What a shining star you were!!

I remember Coach Engel standing on the sidelines each Friday night as he took the WOLVES to a 9-0 season. I was not fortunate enough to have him as a teacher. I graduated in 1975 and was proud to be a part of Bay City Central. "Go Wolves!"

Coach Engle is an icon when talking high school football in Michigan.i would not be the person i am today teaching/coaching without his influence. my deepest sympathy to his family and friends. jim thompson class of 72

As a former cheerleader for Bay City Central High School, I attended numerous football games that were coached by Elmer Engel. Too many of us took a coach of that caliber (at the high school level) for granted because he was the only Head Varsity Football Coach we experienced during our years in high school. As we got older and added to our experiences, we eventually realized what a gem we had in Elmer Engel and his terrific staff of coaches. Thank you, Elmer for choosing to stay with us...
