Canale Tonella Funeral Home and Cremation Services - Marquette Obituary

Elna E. Muelle, 90, of Marquette, passed away the morning of Saturday, April 15, 2017 at Brookridge Heights Memory Care in Marquette. Elna was born August 28, 1926 in Marquette, daughter of Oscar and Esther (Sweder) Anderson and was a 1943 graduate of Graveraet High School in Marquette. Elna was a Registered Nurse having received her training at the Augustana School of Nursing in Chicago, Illinois. She spent many years caring for others as a nurse eventually being appointed Director of Nursing at St. Mary’s Hospital. She was proud of her Swedish heritage and loved to sing, regardless if it was around the piano with her sister, the late Adele (Meese), performing in local musical productions, or on Sunday morning as a member of the church choir at St. Christopher Catholic Church. Most of all, she was happiest at her cherished cottage on the shores of Au Train Lake where she spent a lifetime of summers enjoying “the most peaceful on earth.” Elna was the beloved wife of 58 years to the late Hans Muelle (2009) and devoted mother of four children, Robert Muelle of Marquette, Kathy (Andy) Jones of Three Rivers, MI., Paul (Peggy) Muelle of Grosse Pointe, MI., and Mary (Brian) Andres of Nazareth, PA. She is also survived by grandchildren, Kate and Rachel Muelle, Nicole and Zack Jones, and Jessica and Austin Andres, as well as several nieces and nephews. Friends and relatives may call at the Canale-Tonella Funeral Home on Thursday from 5 to 7 p.m. where a parish prayer service will be recited at 7 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday at 11 a.m. at St. Christopher Catholic Church with the Rev. Greg Heikkala officiating. Burial will take place in the Holy Cross Cemetery. Elna’s obituary can also be viewed at canalefuneral.com where relatives and friends may leave a note of remembrance.

I will always remember your mother as an angel! We used to hang out all the time in the summer while I stayed at my grandmothers. Your poor mother made so much lemonade for our lemonade stands =) Elna was such a wonderful, soft-spoken, compassionate person. She made a wonderful impact on my life growing up. God bless her. The Lord will take care of her now.

To the Muelle Family, Extending to your family this heartfelt assurance of deep sympathy. With our condolences, The Marquette Area Public Schools Board of Education and Employees

Paul, Kathy, Mary & Paul-what a beautiful, happy picture of your mom-it's just how I remember her. Our parents were such great friends & I have fond memories of time spent at your house & of course, at AuTrain. Elna was always so sweet & welcoming. I'll always remember her smile & twinkling eyes & soft voice. God has truly gained an angel. May you all find comfort in your beautiful memories of her. It was wonderful to reconnect with all of you & Elna once again after so many years at...

Mary, Brian and family,
We are so sorry about your mom. May all your beautiful memories help to ease the pain and help to keep her alive in your hearts and souls forever. Our thoughts and prayers are with you. Sending our love.

Bob, My deepest sympathy to you and your family on your dear mom's death. You were so attentive to caring for her during these last few years. I only met her at the time of your dad's funeral, but I know the death of a mom leaves a great emptiness in a family as you give her back to God. I will remember her at Mass. Prayers for you all. Fr. Jed Patrick

A great heart has stopped beating, but a beautiful soul has has ascended into heaven. We pray for eternal life for your mom who was truly a distinguished woman of humanity. Mary, sending all our love to you and your family in this time of grief. Love you xoxo

I'm sorry to hear of Elna's passing...I saw them many times over the years at the Brownstone Inn...Her and her sister Adele were two of my favorite customers...I remember bringing my daughter Ashley to visit Adele and Elna walked over to see her too...And I believe she sang to her...Live and prayers to the family!
