Elsa Manalo Garcia

Elsa Manalo Garcia, 85, passed away peacefully on November 22, 2025.

Born in the Philippines, Elsa graduated from Centro Escolar University in Manila with a degree in Social Work and began her career as a supervisor with the Foster Parents Plan, serving families and children with compassion and care. She later immigrated to the United States, a courageous leap that shaped the future of her family for generations to come.

In 1979, she married her husband, Maximo Sanchez Garcia, and together they built a life rooted in hard work, devotion and deep love. Elsa and Max were active members of St. Patrick’s Church in San Francisco, where Elsa was a mezzo soprano with the Pag-asa Choir. Music was one of her greatest pleasures — her voice was rich, warm and expressive, and singing allowed her to share a kind of beauty she often carried quietly.

Elsa was gentle, soft-spoken and endlessly loving. She raised her daughter with tenderness and unwavering support, creating a childhood full of laughter, play and simple joys that became treasured memories. Later in life, she embraced her daughter-in-law, Gwen, as her own, lovingly introducing her as her “daughter” to everyone she met.

Becoming a Lola (grandmother) was one of Elsa’s greatest joys in life. Arlo, Rex and Evie were the lights of her life, and she delighted in everything about them — every drawing, every story, every hug. Her love for them was pure, joyful, and unconditional.

Elsa is survived by her daughter, Therese, her daughter-in-law, Gwen, and her grandchildren, Arlo, Rex and Evie. She is preceded in death by her husband, Maximo Sanchez Garcia, her parents, Ricardo and Virginia and her siblings, Ricardo Jr., Virginia and Rosario.

Elsa will be remembered for her kindness, her softness, her beautiful singing voice, her smile, and her capacity to love without limits. Her legacy lives on in the family she raised and the gentleness she brought into the world.
