1928 – 2020

AGAWAM – Elsie M. (Hageman) LaPointe, 92, of Main Street passed away peacefully in her sleep on Saturday, August 29, 2020. Born in New Rochelle, NY on April 19, 1928, she was the daughter of the late Herman and Elsie (Ek) Hageman. She lived most of her life in Springfield, MA, moving to Agawam in 2005. Educated in local schools, she graduated from Technical High School. Elsie was a member of the former Liberty Methodist Church.  She was a longtime member of several Rebekah Lodges. Elsie was a very social person and always had a warm smile and helping hand for everyone she met. Elsie is survived by her three children Alan LaMountain (Evelyn), Francis LaPointe (Susie), and Ida Shultz (Bob), as well as 5 grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren, 2 great-great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.  Elsie was predeceased by her husband of 54 years Francis (“Tiny”) LaPointe, and her siblings Ida McLeod, Genevieve Sykas, and Herman Hageman.  A committal service will be held at the Massachusetts Veterans’ Memorial Cemetery in Agawam Thursday at 10:00am.  Due to Covid regulations, masks and social distancing will be required.  The Agawam Curran-Jones Funeral Home is handling all arrangements and there are no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, donations in Elsie’s name may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association of MA, or your favorite charity. For more information, please visit curranjones.com.

Not sure what to say?

My thoughts and prayers to all Elsie's family. She was an amazing woman. Her smile would light up a room. And she always had a kind word for everyone. Rest in peace Elsie I will miss you.

Thank you “Step Mom” for the coffee and the talks, the corn pancakes, and the trip to Vermont. Thanks for giving us rides before we could drive, and, years later, trusting me to drive the car home after moving Ida to Boston. Thanks for the advice about that motorcycle—you were right. Thanks for being my neighbor and for taking in Spot, for sharing your birthday, and teaching me cribbage.
Love from your “Step daughter” Susan

Elsie was just a kind and sweet woman i had the honor of meeting. I’ll never forget our warm talks over coffee at the home. I love you dearly Elsie, rest easy love.
Tasha M.

I will miss that smile.
