Emerald Dawes

To the Dawes Family,
My sincerest sympathy, my thoughts and prayers are with you all. Emerald was an unsung hero to many. He used to cut my dad's hair when he was in the nursing home. I have known your family all of my life and I must say that Granite City has lost a true gentleman! God bless and keep all of you.

I have so many fond memories of all the vacations and holidays we spent together. Remember our annual March celebrations at Noah's Ark?? God bless you through this difficult time but we all know God will ease your pain and bless you.

Irene and Family,
We were out of town at the time of Emerald's passing and felt so badly that we did not get home until late Friday evening. We stopped in early Saturday morning, but missed the family. We send our sincere sympathy to you all. Our friendship goes back many, many years. We hate losing old friends. They seem to be the best.

Dear Mrs. Dawes,

Mike and I want to send our sympathies to you and your family. Emerald was a terrific guy. My husband worked with your son, Bob, at the fire department. Your daughter, Ruth, and I graduated high school together and your daughter-in-law, Pat, was one of the young girls who hung around Rosie Calvin and our group of friend. God bless and keep you all in his care. The city has lost a good friend.

Emerald sponsored the Spengler-Dawes softball team around 1962. My Dad, Earl, managed the team and my brother Steve played. I was the batboy. Then he would cut my Dad's hair when Dad spent some months in the hospital. Dad really appreciated the service and his friendship. I am sorry for your loss but he will not be forgotten by our family. You are in our prayers.

Irene, words alone can not express the sorrow I feel for your loss.Emerald was one of the nicest gentlemen I got to know while volunteering. He really is going to be missed. Our prayer go out to you and your family. Thank you for allowing me to have such a wonderful friend.

We will always remember all the great times as kids growing up and the times you came to see Mom and Dad. They loved their travels with you. Uncle Emerald is now with Mom,Dad and Quinton---what a celebration! We are so sad we cannot be with you but are prayers and love are forever with you.
