Father, I often think of our many after dinner walks through Boston. I learned much about the city, about life and about our faith. You were a huge part of my faith development. Thank you. Sending up many prayers where flights of angels no doubt accompany you.

Father Emil carried the candle for so many of us in dark times. I always respected him, loved his sense of humor, and will keep him in my prayers.

Uncle Emil--You were such a part of my life growing up and as an adult. I will always remember your support during difficult times and all the fun we had. You were an important part of my life and I miss you terribly. I'm sure you are surrounded by the rest of the family in Heaven and will continue to send your prayers down to us on earth. Fr. Emil was a very special person in my life. He came to St. Rosalie when I was a child. He quickly became great friends with my father and a member of our entire family. Most important events im my life included Fr. Emil. I could not begin to list them all. He was an inspiration in my life and taught me much about my faith. I was fortunate to visit him one last time on his 96th birthday. A group led the rosary. I am so grateful to have prayed with him one last time. He said to me every time we spoke, "God Bless You". I know God has blessed him. I will miss him tremendously.

Father Emile was not only my pastor for years, but a true friend indeed. I remember the dinners in my home and especially his love for the sour cream pound cake I make. Many memories I will cherish. Ruby Armbruster-Legner

Fr. Emil was a wonderful man and a very dedicated priest. I will be eternally grateful for his guidance and priestly example during my childhood. It is through his priestly example that I was deeply moved to my priestly vocation. The many occasions where he invited me to accompany him on sick calls, serve the Holy Mass, assist at funerals, shadow him and observe his administrative duties, pray the Liturgy of the Hours all helped me find a natural comfort and happiness in my vocational discernment. He was like a second father to me. May he rest in peace.

I will never forget Fr. Emil. He baptized my first child in 1985. Father suggested to us that St. John Bosco be the saint representing his baptismal name, I hadn't thought much about it until then. What a wonderful suggestion it was. I can only imagine the smile on his face meeting Don Bosco at the gates of heaven. Enjoy your heavenly reward Fr. Emil!

I first met Fr. Emil about 6 years ago when I was transferred to Westside Leitz Eagan. He would walk everyday ( in his 90's) for exercise and would be praying the rosary the entire time. He always stopped by to let the ladies of Westside dote on him just a little. If there was ever a family in need or without a priest for their funeral, he gladly volunteered and would deliver a message so well that you never knew he didn't know that family personally. While he is finally enjoying his lifetime of work and dedication in Heaven we all have heavy hearts knowing that smile will only be in our memory! What a great man!

As a diocesan priest I was always impressed how much Fr. Emil made himself at home in the Archdiocese and worked together with other priests and parishes. May he rest in peace and be welcomed home as a generous and faithful servant of the Lord.
Grace and peace to family and friends.

Fr. Emil's memory will be forever etched on our hearts and on the hearts of our entire family. He was a special part of our family and wonderful memories of countless weddings, baptisms, birthdays, and family meals shared will be deeply treasured. His 90th birthday at Impastato's restaurant, when former Saints' kicker, John Karney and his wife came to our table and asked Fr. Emil for a blessing, stands out as one of the best of many we celebrated with him. What a magical evening it was, complete with "New York, New York" sung by the restaurant singer, and his beloved Irish Dominican Sisters surprising him as guests on his special birthday!
He immensely enjoyed reading,so looking at the newly released books at Sam's Club brought him great pleasure. We will miss our visits to Sam's!
Fr. Emil was a man of deep faith and lived for the Lord. He always told us that he truly loved being a priest and that he cherished his ministry. We pray that God will reward his years of faithful service and dedication to the Church. May Jesus, through the intercession of Mary, grant you peace and joy, Fr. Emil.

“A faithful friend is a sturdy shelter, he who finds one finds a treasure. No sum can balance his worth.”
You have been a dear friend and a true spiritual father to me these many years. May the Lord grant you His eternal peace and rest…well done good and faithful priest of the Lord.
On behalf of the parishes of Christ the King, Iowa Park and St. Paul, Electra, Texas thank you for the priestly ministry you shared with us…even in “retirement”. Mass will be offered in both parishes this weekend.
You prayed for us here on earth, now pray for us in Heaven as you join the Communion of Saints.

I was fortunate enough to share lots of the last 7.5 years with Fr. Emil. A friend of the family since first coming to Harvey over 40 years ago, he quickly became one of my best friends. We worked together at Shaw every morning at 7:00 mass until I graduated and moved to Lafayette. I did not let my distance come between us. Whenever I came back home, I would spend time with Father-trips to St. Benedict's in Covington, rosary at Ms. Linda Engelbrecht's house, mass at St. Rosalie or St. Anthony, dinner with Ms. Ruby and the Cabra Dominican nuns, his 90th birthday with the Salesian community, and probably the most fun-our trip to the "fun palace" on my 21st birthday in 2008. It was my privilege to talk, to learn, to pray, to smile, and create memories with this man. He always loved to take a ride to Sam's, Barnes & Noble, or Sears at Oakwood in "his" car. I am most thankful that my last visit with him 3 weeks ago concluded with a beautiful, personal blessing for my mother and myself. An example that no matter what his condition he wanted to first and foremost serve St. John Bosco, Mary Helper of All Christians, and his Lord. Thank you Father, my friend.

One of many happy times with Fr. Emil!
