Not sure what to say?

I loved my Uncle Joe, he was so much fun and his house was full of love. We didn't visit as often as I would have liked but a wonderful memory was a dance with him at my daughters wedding...it was magical.

At my urging, Dr. Piel, at age 94, and his wife, at the time, Maybelle, attended the 1958 EOHS class reunion. Most of us never knew he was a dive bomber pilot in WWII as he never talked about it. After dinner, I was giving a talk about the time when Dr. Piel was our very influential teacher. He stood up came over to me, asked for the microphone and addressed the class and said, "Anyone who felt I influenced them, raise your hand". After two seconds he said, "That's enough". The class laughed....

Very tardy condolences to the family. I just learned of Dr. Piel's death. My father, James McNeary, was one of his students in the Engineering Concepts Curriculum Project. Pops was in his 50s and thoroughly enjoyed learning and then teaching using the ECCP methods. Dr. Piel was a great educator and, as my Dad would say, "a gentleman and a scholar". May he rest in peace.

Jack, Just learned of your fathers passing. So sorry to hear, he was always very nice to me. Hope you are doing OK, my best to you and your family.

An outstanding individual and educator, as evidenced by previous entries.
(PCG-GCHS'50)

To the family of Dr. Piel: I was truly sorry to hear of your loss. Dr. Piel had been my principal while I was a student at West Essex High School. I greatly respected him, and wish that there were more principals like him in schools today. But I also knew him as a friend through St.Peter's Church, and will always remember and be grateful for his kindness to my Mother, especially after my father passed away. He was also a great support to me and my family after my Mom died. I know you...

Mr. Piel was my Physics teacher and track coach at Grover Cleveland HS in the early 50's. We respected him, he respected us and didn't take any guff... he was a good man and good teacher serving as an excellent role model for self-growth. A special man indeed!

Joe Piel was a remarkable achiever in every cause he served - family, country, church, community and friends. He added value to people, organizations, and the institutions he served.

He was always good company, interested, caring, good natured and consoling. He was the tide that lifted all the boats.

I golfed with him, sailed with him on both coasts, and loved him. He will always be a part of me.

The Very Reverend Edmund B. Partridge

Joe Piel was a very special man!!! I was secretary at St. Peter's Church in the late 1980's and Joe was the hardest worker for the church that I have ever seen. I knew Betty and loved both of them. May they both "rest in peace".
